Global Warming

The American researchers assume, that landing of trees in cold regions of the Earth , where is the great quantity of snow fall , can conduct to strengthening global warming.

Such data , which have been published in magazine “Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences”, again emphasize all complexity of ecosystems of the Earth. In fact earlier was considered on the contrary, that ratio of cutting down a forests brings the contribution to global warming.

But according to results of researches, in cold areas of the Earth, such as Canada, northern areas of Russia, some Scandinavian countries, trees shade reflecting surface of a snow ,that leads to increasing of ability of the Earth to absorb a sunlight.

” The snow reflects a sunlight back in space, and the sunlight -heats up the Earth. Therefore if at snow plain or snow tundra, the sunlight reaches a snow, is reflected back in space and does not heat up the Earth “, - declares scientist Ken Caldera, the expert about a climate in Carnegie’s Washington institute. He also adds, that if in territory there is a forest , wood branches and trunks can absorb a sunlight; if it is a coniferous wood needles will absorb light, and it conducts to very strong heating effect.

Scientists who carried out researches, emphasize, that they don’t support at all mass cutting down of northern forests, due their biological variety. But they warn about necessity of the reasonable approach to planting a lot of trees for absorption carbonic and other hotbed gases as it is possible.

Also Ken Calder considers, that such methods which protect, keep and restore forests in tropics, are for sure good both for ecosystems, and for a climate, but at high latitudes they can even worsen a problem of global warming.

The USA have submitted the sharp criticism to the propose concerning fight against climatic changes which Germany ,presiding in EU, is intent to present on forthcoming summit of the G8, ” the big eight ” ( June, 6-8th ) in the German city Heiligendamm

In the Group of Eight are major industrialized countries — the USA., Britain, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, Canada and Russia

Washington has warned Berlin about an ability of taking uncompromising position by USA at negotiations of this problem ,as in offers of Germany ” serious, fundamental concern ” of the USA is ignored.

At the disposal of the edition of the international business circles there was an application which the White house has directed to Berlin. In the document, in particular, it is spoken that last project of the group about this question ” is named final, however we never agreed with none positions of section about climate “.

“The majority of our remarks to the previous project are not considered and new problematic positions are added “, - it is marked in the document.

Under the statement of the western diplomats, such flash of discontent from the USA puts under doubt achievement of the universal agreement on struggle against climatic changes in Heiligendamm, despite of active lobbying from Berlin within several months.

Russians have admitted their fears

The Russian center of studying public opinion has lead examination among 1600 Russians, with the purpose to find out, what they consider the most probable threats to existence of mankind, and to find out their attitude to global warming.

Interrogation was performed on March, 10-11th in 153 settlements in 46 areas, regions and republics of Russia.

The questioning has shown, that Russians consider quite real

* threat of epidemic of unknown illnesses (66 %),
* technologic accidents (63 %),
* global warming (62 %),
* spontaneous natural disasters (56 %) and
* a gradual exhaustion of natural resources: oil, gas and other raw materials (55%).

It was simultaneously found out, that Russians do not consider as real threats

* uncontrollable growth of the population of the planet (76 %),
* disappearance of the population of the Earth because of decrease in birth rate (63 %),
* believe improbable collision of the Earth with a space body (69 %) or approach of a global cold snap (67 %).

93 % of respondents are informed about global warming, thereof 34 % of interrogated have declared, that know about it sufficient, 59 % heard something. As expected , the greatest awareness was shown by respondents with the high education and with not finished higher education.

45% respondents consider, that global warming will lead to catastrophic consequences. Next 29 % believe, that the climate will worsen, but not considerably. At last, 10 % have stated belief, that as a result of global warming the climate in some areas of the Earth will improve.

In a question about influence of global warming directly to Russia, 51 % of respondents have an opinion, that it will be negative. Thus the greatest concern was expressed by the Russians which belong to wealthy social status

Inhabitants of Southern federal district are afraid most of from all negative consequences of global warming: 70 % of southerners are disposed pretty pessimistic and only 6 % believe, that anything strange will not occur. Meanwhile in Siberia the quantity of optimists is much more than 29 %, however the majority (57 %) does not wait from global warming for anything good.

In spite of all worries and fears, only 45 % have supported financing programs about prevention of a climate change. Another 45 % have declared, that they are against spending financial funds for struggle against global warming, considering necessary to direct a money ,available in the government, for social programs.

It was found out also, that mainly well provided social class of the population agree with financing ,while the majority of respondents of unsuccessful social groups has spoken against act of financing.
