Climate variations ruin the objects of the world heritage of UNESCO. The global warming, which in the next decades can radically change the climate of our planet, will not avoid the objects of the world heritage of UNESCO. Under the threat proved to be historical Venice, which can encounter with the strong seasonal floods and the flood of coasts.
On Wednesday on October, 3rd in Davos (Switzerland) was completed three-day international conference « Change of a climate and tourism ». Its participants have approved the Declaration , in which they stated that the tourist industry can and should play the role in struggle against global warming.
In the accepted declaration it is emphasized, that it is necessary to find harmonious balance between development of tourist sector and the measures directed on struggle against global warming, by inventive politics based on reduction of emissions of greenhouse gases, introductions of innovative technologies and rendering of financial support.
Conference has been organized by the World tourist organization, by the Program of the United Nations on an environment and by the World meteorological organization. Representatives of the governments and a civil society have participated in it.
They emphasized that the tourism has a great significance for the poor countries as the most important object of income and a source of workplaces . But at the same time , tourist activity is one of the reasons for an increase in the level of the emissions of greenhouse gases and environmental pollution as a whole.
Director of office of UNESCO in Venice, Swiss Engelbert Ruoss has declared that in the very near future Venice will turn in «Disneyland». Due the rising of sea level, caused by global warming, Venice is, within 8 months in a year, basically occupied only by tourists. As a result of an increase of sea level, the economic activities ,which have been not connected with tourism ,decrease and the townspeople leave city, and there are only visitors.
Ruoss has focused attention on the fact that the climatic changes affect not only environment, but also the buildings, the historical monuments and the cities, entering the list of the world heritage of UNESCO, such as, for example, Venice. Also he stated that it is necessary to end discussions and to be concentrated on the actions. He considers that politicians do not give the necessary significance to struggle against global warming , as they do not assume the actions, which give the perceptible results. Ruoss came out with the support of the general actions of scientists, politicians and society for achieving the real global changes.
