Because of the global warming the highest mountain in Western Europe became higher. Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Western Europe, in two years grew up more than 2 meters. As a result of global warming the height of mountain, as reported the geodetic service of French department of the Upper Savoy, has achieved 4810.9 meters. Previously, the height of this Alpine mountain was 4807 meters; however, in 2003 Mont Blanc has started to grow, and most quickly the top grew in the latest months. “The height, just as the volume of Mont Blanc, has considerably increased. This happened because of the fact that during the last two years at the peak was formed the snowy massif”, explained geodesist Philip Borel.
The amount of ice on slopes of mountain has increased almost twice since 2005, having made, including this year, 24.1 thousand cubic meters. Furthermore, the volume of snow on Mont Blanc also has grown, which became consequence of winds and high summer temperatures. Scientists consider that blameworthy is -global warming. “As a result at the height more than 4 thousand meters were formed the snow deposits, which covered the slopes of mountain”, explains meteorologist Ian Dzhiezendanner. He considers that this increase in the mountains is characteristic of high Alpine tops. “The layer of ice at the high apexes increases, at that time as ice at the average or low heights thaws and it can completely disappear”, - the scientist has told.
