According to their Wikipedia for this song (obviously doesn't mean it's true, but at least a source) that Foo Fighters released a video for Generator of them playing a live performance in Austrailia. and masked the video with the studio version. And this song was a single in Austrailia, so it would make sense.

its very true its voiced over. maybe because it was for show??? who knows. but they are actually live for most shows.
